Rowing Monitor IT & Security Overview
Software updates, security patches, and network requirements
Overview
The XBoat Rowing Monitor is a dedicated device used to view and record rowing performance data. It runs a single application that launches automatically on startup and is not used for general-purpose computing, web browsing, or email. The device requires only outbound internet access for software updates and data synchronization—no inbound connections are necessary.
Software Updates
XBoat Rowing Monitor software is released on the following schedule:
- Stable Track: Quarterly
- Beta Track: Weekly
A notification appears on the Settings tile when a software update is available. To install, press "Update" next to the Version menu item in Settings.
Operating System
As of September 2025, all Rowing Monitors ship with Android 14 and security patches current as of July 2025.
Security Patches & OS Updates
Android OS updates and security patches are available through the standard Android update mechanism. Users can check for and install updates as follows:
- From the home screen, navigate to
Settings
- Scroll to the
Systemsection and selectSystem Settingsto open Android OS System Settings
- Select
System>System Update
- Download and install any available updates
- The device will restart once the update is complete
Patch availability: Security patches are available as released by the device manufacturer.
Device Lifecycle
XBoat Rowing Monitors receive OS updates and security patches for the duration of the operating system's supported lifecycle.
Organizations enrolled in XBoat Elite receive complimentary hardware upgrades, including Rowing Monitors, ensuring continued access to the latest devices and operating systems beyond the standard support window.
Enterprise Management
XBoat Rowing Monitors do not currently support Mobile Device Management (MDM) enrollment. However, the devices are designed for dedicated, single-purpose use and do not store sensitive user data.
