Installing Oarlocks

This guide demonstrates how to equip any rowing shell with XBoat Smart Oarlocks.

Installation Procedure

1) Remove Existing Oarlock and 8.5mm of spacers (the height of an XBoat Angle Reference) from the pin.

Set aside 8.5 mm of spacers that will be replaced by the Angle Reference

2) Install Angle Reference with the embossed arrow face up and pointed towards stern. Wait to tighten until step 6.

3) Install the XBoat Smart Oarlock directly on top of the angle reference, then reinstall all original spacers and washers above of the XBoat Oarlock.

💡

For best accuracy, continue adding washers in increments of 0.5mm until vertical play is reduce to less than 0.5mm, but the oarlock continues to swing freely without friction

4) Reattach and tighten any backstays or pin bolts to secure the assembly and confirm the fit.

5) Check that XPod is clear of the backstay or rigger cup. Note that some riggers require the use of an extended cup. You can find an up-to-date list of supported equipment here.

6) Finally, tighten the Angle Reference with the provided 3mm hex wrench until it securely grips the pin. Be sure the point the embossed arrow towards the stern of the boat so the Angle Reference is approximately parallel to the hull.
