Salt Water Care
Monthly Maintenance
Once a month, apply a thin film of Molykote 4 Electrical Insulating Compound to both:
- the XPod and Oarlock electrical contacts, and
- the Angle Reference screw threads
Everything else (rinsing, wiping down) happens each row or at re-charging. See the full details below.
DO NOT disassemble your oarlocks while troubleshooting problems! Removing any screws will require the oarlock to be serviced and recalibrated.
Do not use automotive greases, marine lubricants, or household lubricants
Do not scrub with abrasives or other cleaning agents
Do not allow debris, dirt, or salt into the grease layer
XPod and Oarlock Care
🚣 After Each Row
- Rinse salt water off the outside of XBoat Oarlocks and XPods with fresh water
- Leave the XPod attached to the oarlock to minimize exposure to salty water and air
🔌 When Re-Charging
- Gently wipe away any salt deposits with a clean, damp cloth
- Use 4:1 water and white vinegar solution for cleaning salty parts
- Do not scrub the XPod contacts with abrasives or other cleaning agents
📅 Each Month Re-grease the contacts
- Clean and dry electrical contacts
- Apply a thin film of Molykote 4 Electrical Insulating Compound to the contacts

Angle Reference Care
📅 Each Month: Re-grease the screw
- Remove and clean the Angle Reference screw
- Apply a thin coat of Molykote 4 Electrical Insulating Compound to the screw threads
- Replace the screw and tighten normally
- Wipe away excess insulating compound (if any)
